What Are the Restrictions on Truck Size and Weight for Commercial Tolls?

Commercial vehicles are not allowed to travel on avenues. All commercial drivers must use local, straight-through truck routes to the intersection closest to their destination. All posted restrictions must be obeyed. Vehicles that exceed any of these dimensions must obtain a daily permit for oversized vehicles for each trip (round trip).If you need to transport an oversized vehicle, you can apply for a daily permit.

According to the NN, no state shall impose a total length limit on such vehicles when they travel in a combination of a tractor-beverage semi-trailer or tractor-beverage semi-trailer and beverage truck. Combinations of tractor-semi-trailer-trailer and tractor-semi-trailer-semitrailer truck with a maximum length of individual load units of 28.5 feet or less are also allowed. No state shall impose a total length limitation on commercial vehicles operating in tractor-semi-trailer or tractor-semi-trailer or tractor-semi-trailer-trailer combinations. Furthermore, no state shall prohibit commercial motor vehicles from operating in truck, semitrailer and trailer combinations. The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is working with the trucking industry to educate commercial vehicle and truck operators about weight limits and the compliance program.
